Kuba Figural Comb on Stand 01

This beautiful authentic Kuba figural comb is hand carved by the Kuba artisans from Congo.  The Kuba figural comb is hand carved from wood and decorated with a beautifully carved figure on top.

In many cultures from the Congo elaborate hair styles  were seen as a 'mark of civilization' and an extension of African aesthetics.  Complex hairstyles take hours to make and require a structure to support this elegant coiffure.  Combs such as this were used to ornament ceremonial coiffures and to untangle the hair.
