Kuba Royal Helmet Mask
The Kuba Royal Helmet Mask originates from the Kuba Tribe in the Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire. The art of the Kuba is one of the most highly developed of all African traditions, and significant cultural accomplishments are part of their heritage.
The mask is layered with raffia beard, cowrie shells, beads and geometric patterns representing the power of the Kuba King. These masks are not only revered as a piece of history and works of art, they are used for dancing in ritualized ceremonies honoring and portraying the orgins of the Kuba Kingdom.
